* National Portfolio Day (Art & Design School College Fair)

12:00-4:00pm with campus tours and information available 10-11:30am

National Portfolio Day is an opportunity to meet representatives from 28 leading colleges of art and design from around the country and Canada who are here to share information about their undergraduate programs with you. The event is free and open to the public and best geared towards high school juniors and seniors, as well as undergraduate college transfer students. Registration is required on site. Those attending may register early by completing the registration form and bringing a printout of their ticket on National Portfolio Day for fastest entry. Early registration is not required but will save entrance processing time on day of event.

Directions to Campus

Parking: Parking is available on campus and at satellite lot nearby for overflow. Shuttle bus service will run between campus and satellite lot at Caitlin Gabel School at 8825 SW Barnes Road (.4 miles away).

*  Scholastic Art Awards Deadline is January 15:

This regional and national awards program is over 90 years old and the most respected program that honors and encourages young creative people.  It is a non-profit organization that also awards hundreds of thousands of scholarship dollars annually.  Winning pieces are featured in publications and in exhibitions.

The first stage of this annual event occurs at the regional level.  We are part of the Portland Metro Scholastic Art Awards region, and the deadline for submitting works digitally is Thursday, January 15, 8:59 p.m.  Online registration:

National Portfolio Day is coming to Portland’s Oregon College of Art & Craft on January 11, 12 to 4 pm

Representatives from Oregon College of Art and Craft (OCAC) and 28 leading art and design colleges from across the country and Canada will come together on Sunday, January 11, 2015 on the OCAC campus for National Portfolio Day (NPD) in Portland, Oregon.  Students may learn about this direction of study, learn about specific programs and career opportunities, financial aide, etc.  Students may get feedback on their artwork from admissions officers from these institutions.

Fine Art News 10.20.14

 * WHS Art on Display:  25 – 30 works by WHS artists and photographers will be featured at the 2014 Charbonneau Arts Festival, whose proceeds will benefit the fine art programs at Wilsonville HS and Canby HS!  Saturday, Oct. 25 features a special art preview and evening concert.  Sunday is the open art show from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., which will feature a student art exhibit as well as professional art exhibits.

The Charbonneau Arts Festival proudly presents an evening of Music and Art with    Michael Allen Harrison in concert.  The event begins on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Charbonneau Country Club, 32000 S.W. Charbonneau Drive, Wilsonville, Oregon.
Presale tickets are $40.00 per person online at,
or locally in the Charbonneau shopping center at Area Floors, 38140 SW Charbonneau Drive, or at the door for $50.00.
The Saturday evening concert event will include catered hors d’oeuvres, dessert, coffee and tea and no-host wine.  The concert is a part of the Charbonneau ArtsFestival two-day celebration, preceded by an art preview and sale from 3pm to 5pm and continued after the concert from 7pm to 9pm.
The Charbonneau Arts Festival continues on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 11am to 5pm with the traditional Arts and Crafts Fair with free admission, snacks, coffee, punch and no- host wine.

*  Did you know that WHS artist-teacher Christopher Shotola-Hardt rotates exhibits at Fred Meyer Starbucks?  These shows normally feature works by current or past WHS art students. This month the show is “Beyond the Demos IX:  Oregon Artists Who Teach.”  Beyond the Demos is a series of juried exhibitionsShotola-Hardt founded nine years ago that highlights the artwork of art educators from around our state.  This year’s manifestation was juried by Amanda Recker, director of ALT Creative Studio in Wilsonville.  The exhibit is spread between two galleries (at Starbucks and at ALT) and can be seen through November 1.

Club Fair is past, but it’s not too late to get signed-up

Art Club goes gallery hopping up in the Pearl District on First Thursdays. We also work on public murals and other public art projects. Enrollment in an art class is not required. Come to the 2-D Art Studio to learn more.

Our first gallery hopping trip of the year will happen next week, on First Thursday, October 2, from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. See Mr. Shotola-Hardt for info and permission form.

Be in the group that brings art to the school and community. We design art exhibitions, help organize art festivals, and do community service projects using art as a vehicle for positive community development. Graduating seniors wear the rainbow cords at graduation.

Fine Art News 9.11.14

*  WHS Art Instructor Christopher Shotola-Hardt featured in “A Contemporary Bestiary,” a special, curated exhibit at The Halle Ford Museum of Art in Salem, OR.


A Contemporary Bestiary features work by artists from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and British Columbia who incorporate animal imagery in their artwork as a means to address a wide variety of issues. Organized by Director John Olbrantz, the exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, ceramics, and photography. The exhibition opens September 13 and continues through December 21, 2014, in the Maribeth Collins Lobby and Melvin Henderson-Rubio Gallery.

The exhibition features 56 objects on loan from public and private collections throughout the region, including a number of objects from the permanent collection of the Hallie Ford Museum of Art. A wide variety of animals are represented, including Frank Boyden birds, David Gilhooly frogs, Gaylen Hansen fish and dogs, Ed Wicklander cats, Ted Wadell cattle, and Deborah Butterfield horses. In addition to the objects on display, the exhibition features a text panel, quotes from the artists, object labels, and quotes from James Lipton’s book An Exaltation of Larks.


*  ART CLUB:  Students can’t fit art into their schedules or the art classes are full?  Students can still be involved in artmaking and art enjoyment by joining the Art Club.  We do monthly gallery hopping trips on First Thursdays.  We will head to the Pearl District for the artist openings in October, November, February, March, April, and May.  Art Club also likes to do art projects and occasional art commissions for businesses in the community.  We will have our first meeting Wednesday, September 17 at lunch in the 2D Studio.


*  NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY will have its first meeting of the year on Thursday, September 18 at lunch in the 2D Studio.  Come help plan our activities for the year.


*  ALT Creative Studio:  located here in Wilsonville’s Old Town offers classes for kids, teens, and adults in various media.  ALT Creative Studio also hosts Open Studio for artists who want to explore on their own and need a place to work.  Visit their website for upcoming workshops & classes.  Do you have an arty idea for a party?  ALT Creative Studio offers instruction with most parties and every person attending walks away with their own self-created masterpiece.

WHS Group Art Show in The Pearl!

In celebration of Youth Art Month, the annual, national month of advocacy for art education:

Wilsonville High School Fine Art group art exhibition at Lizard Lounge in the Pearl features 19 artists from the combined Art IV & AP Studio Art class.  Students responded to prompts as they produced work that would jive with the vibe there.  Please congratulate these students and please come out to see the show. The show runs all through March, with a reception this Sunday, March 17, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

The owners of Lizard Lounge are making it a little exciting for the students by having a little contest:  you can vote for your three favorite pieces, with the first, second, and third place winners receiving store coupons as their prizes.

Fine Art Notes 2.27.13


* WHS Artists accepted into Oregon College of Art & Craft’s Juried High School Art Show for March 2013

Works were selected from these eight WHS artists:  Sammi Griffin, Baylee Hayworth, Doone Williams, Lauren Salgado, Lucy Winn, Morgan Pina, Nicole Cameron, and Courtney Antonson.  March 7 -28.  Hoffman Gallery. Artist Reception:  Thursday, March 7, 4PM to 6PM.

* Lizard Lounge Group Exhibition:  WHS AP and Advanced Studio artist have been honored with a group exhibition at this clothing boutique in the Historic Crane Building in Portland’s Pearl District (1323 NW Irving Street, Portland, OR 97209).
Artist Reception is TBA.  The show will be up from March 4 to March 29.
Store hours:  Monday – Saturday 10am-7pm; Sunday 11am-6pm.

* Wilsonville Fred Meyer Starbucks: A group exhibition of works that were featured in the 2012 Artist Statement juried show in Peoples Art of Portland, a professional gallery.


After a one-year hiatus, this district-wide trash fashion show returns.  Students interested in producing and modeling their work should contact the art specialist in their building to the the important dates and guidelines.
The show will be on Wednesday, April 17, starting at 7pm.
